Lawn Fawn: Inspiration Week continues

Happy Tuesday! Today is  Lawn Fawn Peace Joy Love collection day. This Christmas collection is so NOT your typical line. It's not just the colors, but also the patterns that make these paper so easy to use. This collection makes me happy.

Loooove the background paper. So good! (Going to try and convince Kelly to do them in different colors.) The patterned papers on the right side are journaling cards from the 12" x 12" journaling card sheet. The trees are cut out from another patterned paper (the one with strips of patterns.) The flair is also from the collection. I added a hand-stitched border at the end.

Lawn Fawn: September Inspiration Week

Hello there! Lawn Fawn is hosting its September Inspiration Week, and that means a ton of inspiration/ideas/prizes.

I'm a huge fan of fall/winter, but since I've moved here to Los Angeles, I've gotten none of that. So it's time to adapt, right?

I so love this season's new products. The colors are fantastic, and the patterns are so easy to incorporate into layouts and cards (with or without snow.) See the "& everlasting summer"? Milo's ABC stamp set. Fantastic! The arrow strip below it are from the Stitched Journaling Card dies. The heart and arrow are from Woodgrain Backdrops (which is my have!) The patterned paper, Peace on Earth card, and the date banner are from the Peace Love Joy collection kit.

Technique Tuesday: September Studio AE Blog Hop

Oh look, I haven't posted in a while. Since the last Studio AE hop. And it's that time again. Another Studio AE launch. I'm pretty sure you guys are going to LOVE this set. Plus, we are celebrating the 3rd anniversary of Studio AE. That means, Technique Tuesday is giving away THREE gift certificates. Oh yeah.

This month's set is called Daily Photo, and super duper usable for scrapbooking and Project Life.

Here's a simple layout I created using this set. Totally my kind of scrapbooking: photo, journaling, a little color/detail, and white cardstock.

stamps: Technique Tuesday / ink: Tsukineko Versafine, Clearsnap Colorbox Pigment Ink / cardstock: Neenah Classic Crest / adhesive: 3L / font: p22 Typewriter

How-to: I stamped "heart this photo" on white cardstock and punched it out with a 1.75" circle.  Then I used some pop up dots behind it, as well as behind the photo.The arrow is stamped directly onto the background cardstock. And the journaling is printed onto the background too. Super easy!

Technique Tuesday: Studio AE August Blog Hop

Happy Saturday! I can't believe it's been almost two months since I last posted. I wish I could say I have been busy with fun stuff, but alas, I've been mostly driving around, moving kids from point A to point B. Boring, right? I did vacation a little, and I'll share those photos soon. Meanwhile...

Woohoo for the August Technique Tuesday Studio AE Blog Hop. If you don't know what Studio AE is, please go here to find out. Long story short, it's a monthly club with stamps designed by the awesome Ali Edwards. They are so very useful for cards, layouts, Project Life, everything!

This month's stamp set is called Leaving On A Jet Plane. This is right up my alley. I so love traveling. Like a lot! And these stamps are pretty much perfect. Check them out:

For my layout, I used the the Leaving On A Jet Plane set with Travel With Flair.

ETA: I've had a few questions about how the layout was put together.

The base of the layout is digital. I edited my photo (I use Photoshop), added a white layer to the right, adjusted transparency, and typed the journaling at the bottom. It was printed on matte photo paper at home (I use a Canon Pixma MG5220). The print is slightly smaller than 8.5"x11". Then I matted the photo onto the Lawn Fawn patterned paper, which is cut to letter size. The title is stamped directly onto the photo with Versafine (which is my go-to black ink for images I don't color.) The white heart swirls were stamped in white ink and then heat embossed with white powder. The circles were stamped onto white cardstock, punched out with an 1" punch, then added with pop up adhesive. Wood veneers were added last with Scotch Tacky Glue (my fave for adding not-too-heavy 3D embellies.) 

If you are not a digi person, I'd print the journaling onto some vellum and then add that to a large photo. Make sure you are using inkjet printer vellum or the ink will smear. And even so, give it a little time to dry before working with the vellum. You might want to hide the adhesive (Tombow makes a great vellum adhesive) by applying it sparingly in the corner or just use some staples (which would be my choice.)

Lawn Fawn: Inspiration Week, part II

Hello again! Today, the Lawn Fawn blog is featuring the circle and scalloped circle dies. These dies work with most cutting systems. I have a really old Cuttlebug, and these dies work without any extra shims. Just the A, B, and C cutting boards. The circle set features 8 dies and the scalloped set has 7. And of course, they match in size. Yay for that!

This layout is about our hike in Joshua Tree National Park earlier this year. That place is really magical. Such a strange, beautiful world. If you are ever in that area, I highly recommend it. Although, consider going during winter. It's hot as heck during the summer. Yes, I've been there during the summer. Ten minutes in that heat made me want to cry the ugly cry. Plus, summer is when the rattlesnakes are awake and perky... Just sayin'.

To make this layout, I cut up a sheet of Elle's Studio paper to 8.5" x 11". Those pink and red stripes at the bottom are part of the patterned paper. Love that paper!  The photos are cut using the dies. And the title was stamped with Harold's ABC. A little stitching, and I was done.

Speaking of stitching, I created a heart and arrow template for the Lawn Fawn class I taught at CKU-San Diego this past weekend. Simple design with dots, which is where you should poke holes for stitching (I use a Maya Road star pin – perfect for this job!) Lawn Fawn: June Inspiration Week

Yo! I can't believe it's mid-June already. My kids are still in school, but this is their last week. Woohoo!

This week, Lawn Fawn is celebrating its monthly Inspiration Week. That means, lots of ideas, creative eye candy, and amazing prizes!

Today's focus is on Quinn's Capital ABCs. This is a companion set to the other two previous Quinn's lowercase alpha and numbers (I made a layout with the numbers a while back...) And let's not forget the dies! So good!

I used Quinn's Capital to create this layout about my love of washi tapes. Although, c'mon, let's be honest here. You love it and hoard it too! I'd say my collection is on the small side. I'm trying really hard to only buy ones I love. Which is a lot. But I'm pacing myself. A few rolls every now and then as a treat. Although there's enough that even my kids have taken to taping stuff around the house with it. I'm trying my best to share, because, uh, I have more than enough, but I kinda (selfishly) want to put a stop to that...

This was a super fun layout to create. The letters were easy to cut out, and then it was just a question of sticking down some tape adding a photo and some journaling, and stitching around the edge. The letters were then adhered with my favorite wet glue (3M Scotch Tacky Glue). Quick and colorful!

Technique Tuesday: June Studio AE Blog Hop

Happy Monday! Welcome to Technique Tuesday's June Studio AE Blog Hop. This is a super exciting time of the month, when we share our projects using this month's stamp set designed by Ali Edwards. And let's not forget about the nice prize...  

This month's set, Fun In The Sun, is perfect for right now! These adorable banners drawn and handwritten by Ali make a great addition to layouts, cards, and other fun projects.

For this layout, I stamped them on bright neon colored cardstock (DCWV Silky Smooth Brights), and embossed them with white powder (American Crafts Zing). These would also be perfect stamped on patterned paper, filled with watercolor or markers, or just on plain cardstock. And of course, they are awesome for Project Life!

Technique Tuesday: May Greenhouse Society

It's Greenhouse Society time on the Technique Tuesday blog. Greenhouse Society is a monthly club featuring botanical-themed stamps. This set features five stamps in a 3" x 4" sheet. I love that the sentiments are so varied. And the rose is neutral enough that you can mix and match with any other sentiment stamps that you like.

For this card, I stamped the rose with Versamark and embossed it with some clear powder. Then I used Technique Tuesday's watercolor crayons to apply a multi-colored wash. I like to mix the crayon with water before I apply it. But you could draw directly onto the card, and then add water. Saves a whole step and some clean up.

I finished the card by stamping one of the sentiments on some twill and adding some matching bling (Doodlebug). Other than the drying time of the painted cardstock, it's an easy-to-make card. Which pretty much describes all of my projects. Ha!

Technique Tuesday: Happyville Collection

Happy Monday, friends! I had such an awesome Mother's Day. It's so nice to be spoiled. But I did miss spending it with my mom, who is in China right now. She really is my hero. She is brave and true. Plus she's an amazing cook! Win-win.

So back to my regular routine!

My dear friend Teri Anderson designed the adorable Happyville Collection for Technique Tuesday. It's 7 sets that can be mixed and matched to your heart's content.

I created this layout here about my love of traveling, and a bigger love for coming home. You know how they say distance makes the heart grow fonder? True! Distance, and my super comfy bed. For this layout, I used the airplane and a sentiment from the Travel set and a few words off the Home set. It's hard to tell in the pic, but the airplane and the little lines behind them are stamped in gold. The lines are from the (super useful!) In Stitches set. The patterned paper is super old Basic Grey. I've been hoarding and (yay) finally used it. I'm kinda wishing I had more of it.
