Technique Tuesday: February Studio AE Blog Hop

Hey there! It's Technique Tuesday's Studio AE Blog Hop time. This month, the featured set is this beauty, Best Banners:

Super cute, right? I love that it has a solid stamp, so you can add background color to the flags. Or, as I did in this layout, I used the solid flag stamp alone to create those little colorful ones below the photo.

materials: stamp: Technique Tuesday / inks: Colorbox Pigment Ink and Tsukineko VersaFine / patterned paper: Lawn Fawn / enamel dots: My Mind's Eye / adhesive: 3L / thread: DMC

And of course, there's a prize involved! Technique Tuesday is giving away one $25 Gift Card to Technique Tuesday shop to someone who comments during the hop. To be eligible to win, all you need to do is comment on any of our blog posts! The lucky winner will be announced on the 15th on the Technique Tuesday blog.

So leave me a comment here and then off you go blog hopping and commenting some more! Thanks for coming by!

Technique Tuesday: October Studio AE Blog Hop

Hello! Welcome to the Technique Tuesday's October Studio AE Blog Hop!

This month's stamp set is all about December. It's perfect for December Daily, cards and layouts about the Christmas. But not just that! I created this layout about my family's trip to Maui last December. Totally not holiday related, but the stamps were perfect for it.

I love using a grid for layouts. It keeps the layouts looking clean, and it takes the guesswork out of photo placement. This is specially good for photos that are sized the same. The photos for the layout were taken and edited with my phone. I posted them initially on Instagram, so it was very easy to pull them out of the phone, and create a quick grid in Photoshop. I then printed the grid on matte photo paper (#1). Because why cut and paste a bunch of little square photos one by one if you don't have to?

I stamped the banner stamps with colored ink (Colorbox Pigment Ink) on smooth white card stock, and the sentiments with Versafine Onyx Black (#2). I cut those out as strips, but later on I changed my mind, and ended up notching the ends. I used pop-up adhesive to attach them to the layout.

To create the title, I printed it on regular printer paper, and used it to pierce the holes onto the photo paper (#3).

I used a single strand of yellow embroidery thread to stitch the title (#4). When I was done, I thought it needed a bit more color. So I trimmed off a little off each side of the photo paper, and added the yellow cardstock to the background.

Do leave me a comment for a chance to win a $25 gift certificate to the Technique Tuesday store. The winner will be announced October 15th on the Technique Tuesday blog. And don't forget to visit the other blogs on the hop for more chances to win. Thanks for coming by!

Technique Tuesday: Studio AE August Blog Hop

Happy Saturday! I can't believe it's been almost two months since I last posted. I wish I could say I have been busy with fun stuff, but alas, I've been mostly driving around, moving kids from point A to point B. Boring, right? I did vacation a little, and I'll share those photos soon. Meanwhile...

Woohoo for the August Technique Tuesday Studio AE Blog Hop. If you don't know what Studio AE is, please go here to find out. Long story short, it's a monthly club with stamps designed by the awesome Ali Edwards. They are so very useful for cards, layouts, Project Life, everything!

This month's stamp set is called Leaving On A Jet Plane. This is right up my alley. I so love traveling. Like a lot! And these stamps are pretty much perfect. Check them out:

For my layout, I used the the Leaving On A Jet Plane set with Travel With Flair.

stamps: Technique Tuesday / ink: Clearsnap Colorbox Pigment Ink Cat's Eyes, Tsukineko Versafine / embossing powder: American Crafts Zing in White / patterned paper: Lawn Fawn / wood veneer: Studio Calico / 1" punch: EK Success

ETA: I've had a few questions about how the layout was put together.

The base of the layout is digital. I edited my photo (I use Photoshop), added a white layer to the right, adjusted transparency, and typed the journaling at the bottom. It was printed on matte photo paper at home (I use a Canon Pixma MG5220). The print is slightly smaller than 8.5"x11". Then I matted the photo onto the Lawn Fawn patterned paper, which is cut to letter size. The title is stamped directly onto the photo with Versafine (which is my go-to black ink for images I don't color.) The white heart swirls were stamped in white ink and then heat embossed with white powder. The circles were stamped onto white cardstock, punched out with an 1" punch, then added with pop up adhesive. Wood veneers were added last with Scotch Tacky Glue (my fave for adding not-too-heavy 3D embellies.)

If you are not a digi person, I'd print the journaling onto some vellum and then add that to a large photo. Make sure you are using inkjet printer vellum or the ink will smear. And even so, give it a little time to dry before working with the vellum. You might want to hide the adhesive (Tombow makes a great vellum adhesive) by applying it sparingly in the corner or just use some staples (which would be my choice.)

Please leave me a comment and a $25 gift certificate will go to someone who comments during the hop. The winner will be announced on the 15th on the Technique Tuesday blog.

Don't forget to stop by the other blogs on the hop and leave a comment on each.

Technique Tuesday: June Studio AE Blog Hop

Happy Monday! Welcome to Technique Tuesday's June Studio AE Blog Hop. This is a super exciting time of the month, when we share our projects using this month's stamp set designed by Ali Edwards. And let's not forget about the nice prize...

This month's set, Fun In The Sun, is perfect for right now! These adorable banners drawn and handwritten by Ali make a great addition to layouts, cards, and other fun projects.

For this layout, I stamped them on bright neon colored cardstock (DCWV Silky Smooth Brights), and embossed them with white powder (American Crafts Zing). These would also be perfect stamped on patterned paper, filled with watercolor or markers, or just on plain cardstock. And of course, they are awesome for Project Life!

For lots more ideas, please visit these other blogs along the hop! And don't forget to leave a comment on each blog for a chance to win a $25 Technique Tuesday gift certificate.

Technique Tuesday: Studio AE February 2013

Hello hello! Technique Tuesday revealed Studio AE's latest stamp set today. It's called Super Fantastic. Because, well, it is. If you haven't heard about Studio AE, all the stamps are designed by Ali Edwards. And when you sign up for a membership, you get a nice discount on your sets. Find out more about Studio AE here.

So this is Super Fantastic:

It's eleven stamps with everyday sentiments that are perfect for scrapbooking as well as cardmaking. And here's my first project using this set:
stamps: Technique Tuesday Super Fantastic by Ali Edwards / cardstock: Neenah / patterned paper: Echo Park / tags: Elle's Studio / washi: Freckled Fawn, Bella Blvd. / ink: Clearsnap Colorbox Pigment Ink / thread: DMC / staples: Tim Holtz / adhesive: Tombow

I love the mix of the typewriter font with Ali's handwriting. For this layout, I stamped them in various colors, and did some hand stitching with some (kinda sorta) matching thread. It's a layout about my family's recent visit to an Orange County beach. It had a lot of tidepools, and my youngest was fascinated by them, and all the sea creatures he was finding. Usually, he wants to dig in the sand with his brothers (or swim if the water wasn't so cold). But because of these tidepools, he chose to explore the beach with me. WITH ME! Woohoo!

Thanks for visiting today! The Technique Tuesday team will be doing a blog hop on the 10th. So don't forget to come back. Have a great weekend.

Technique Tuesday: July Studio AE Blog Hop

Welcome to July's Studio AE blog hop! Ali Edwards's stamp set for this month is called Summer Rocks.

And she's right. It does! I adore summer. I love having my kids around, and doing a lot of nothing together. We also take day trips to local museums, gardens, libraries. We read, craft, watch movies, and make food together. But we also love to take longer trips. One of our favorite places is Palm Springs. It's close enough so the traveling part is not overwhelming. About 2.5 hours. Traffic included. Because this is Southern California. Traffic is always included!
stamps: Technique Tuesday Studio AE Summer Rocks / inks: Clearsnap Colorbox Pigment Ink, Tsukineko Versafine / embossing powder: American Crafts Zing, Ranger Super Fine Detail / cardstock: Bazzill, DCWV / patterned paper: Bella Blvd / tags: Elle's Studio / page protector: Avery / alphas: American Crafts Amy Tangerine Goodness

I started my own Project Life mid-May, and I only have two weeks done. I haven't progressed much, but I'm not really worried about it. I'll get back to it eventually. But one thing that I've really enjoyed putting together is an overview of our weekend trips. These are 8.5"x11" size inserts that'll go with the appropriate week. There's no journaling in these pages, because I'll most likely write about the trip more extensively using either the Project Life pages or on other layouts.
Adore the new Elle's Studio summer line!
I use these slide pages that hold 20 photos per side. Five down, four across. I got mine here. But if you do a quick google of slide pages, you'll get a bunch of other options.
The white ink is Clearsnap Colorbox Pigment Ink in Frost White, embossed with Ranger's Super Fine Details in Clear. BTW, in case you are wondering, my favorite heat gun is this one. It gets super duper hot, and melts the powder in seconds.
I printed all the photos teeny (the slide pockets are 2"x2"), twenty to a 8.5"x11" sheet of photo paper, and then I trimmed them out (tedious!)
This is the flipside. The adorable yellow chevron paper is from Bella Blvd new line coming out this Summer CHA.
These Summer Rocks stamps are perfect for my Palm Springs photos. We left the afternoon the kids got out of school, so we mostly definitely had all those feelings of school being out, loving summer, needing relaxation!
Sorry about the weird photos. I haven't figured out how to take photos in page protectors yet. Let me know if you have any good tips!
I don't usually like glittery, gold-ish, silver-esque stuff, but I really love gold embossing powder. Weird, huh? This one is American Crafts Zing in, uh, Gold. Of course.
